João de Camargo (1858-1942) was a popular religious leader, who is still worshipped as a saint today. A former black slave and a cattleman, he built the Church of Our Lord Jesus of the Red Water (Igreja de Nosso Senhor do Bom Jesus da Água Vermelha) and gained fame as a miracle worker. To honor him, actor and director Paulo Betti decided to tell his story in film.

This documentary portrays the life and work of Angenor de Oliveira, one of the most prominent composers and performers of Brazilian music. De Oliveira received the nickname "Cartola," which means "top hat" in Portuguese, at a construction site when he decided to wear a bowler hat so that the cement would not stick to his hair while working as a bricklayer. Although he was a born musician, it was not until he was 65 years old that he made his first recording.
